My name is Leland Fong, I am an undergraduate senior at Stanford University studying Mechanical Engineering. As long as I can remember, I’ve always loved to create. As a kid, I would often beg my dad to take me to Home Depot so that I could purchase supplies to make my own crossbows, trebuchets, and swords amongst other medieval weaponry. In middle school & high school, I fell in love with music, and strived to create meaningful performances and musical projects with the people who meant the most to me. At home, I enjoy creating improvised home-cooked meals for my family and, in nature, I enjoy creating lasting memories with my friends.
I believe that we exist in a very physical world. In parallel, I also believe that engineering is a way to alter the physical world around us. With these beliefs, I think of engineering as a way to better the lives of others — to change the status quo about the way people exist. I hope that, with my ability to design and create user-specific solutions, I can contribute to make people’s lives easier.
